Grandparents and the Farm

Hello, good morning, and welcome to The ThINKin' Spot! I'm happy to have ya here!! As many of you know, I've been staying with my grandparents for the past week, and plans are for me to continue that as long as they need me, although, I am enjoying a quiet weekend at home in my pajamas this weekend. My grandma (Granny) has some serious health issues, and with her failing health, she needs 24 hour/day care. About 15 years ago, she suffered a major heart attack, and only about 40-50% of her heart actively functions. In addition, she was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease about 2 years ago, and with Macular Degeneration, she is very nearly blind. She's 86 (soon to be 87) years old, and for the past 45 years, she has been MY Granny. I grew up with her literally a few steps away, and I have to admit that she spent many of her waking hours completely spoiling me. Truly, she spoils everyone who's had the priviledge to spend any time with her at all. She is one of the most loving, giving, patient and kind people I've known in my life, and I owe so much of who I am to her. It is both a pleasure and joy to take care of her. Yes, it is hard work, it gets incredibly frustrating for BOTH of us sometimes, and I couldn't do it for just anyone, but for her, it's a pleasure. She has taken care of so many, and it seems only fitting that we now reciprocate by lovingly taking care of her needs, although it's still difficult for her to allow us to do so.

We enjoyed a beautiful day on the farm last Wednesday with warm temperatures and a gorgeous sunny day, and I decided to take her out on the deck to enjoy a part of the glorious Spring weather. We spent a little over an hour out there, and I had to look hard to find a hat to protect her fragile and fair skin from the sun, which felt so good to her. I finally stumbled upon Grandpa's old fishin' hat, which served the purpose, but I had to keep reminding her to not touch the hat, as there were flies (lures) stuck in the hat. I snapped this picture of her just about the time she instructed me "Little lady...you'd better not get a picture of me in this dorky hat". She cracks me up. It's so good to see her smile. Wednesday was a good day. She knew who we were, felt good, and we all enjoyed the day. Sometimes she does forget who I am, or she'll ask me to get a nurse for her. Thursday, she even woke up from a nap, and announced that she'd like for us to get her a monkey. She said, "Yep...that's just what I need. A monkey!" I thought I would fall off the couch laughing, and Grandpa just stared at her with this bewildered look on his face. It was truly priceless!! Lord, I LOVE her!
This is Granny. EVERYONE who knows her calls her Granny.
And..this handsome young man is Grandpa. All 119 pounds of him. He's pretty healthy, and has always been about this size (he has lost a little weight as he's gotten older, but not that much). Oh, why didn't I get his metabolism?!!!!!
This my the grandparents home where I'm staying. They built it in 1971, when I was 7 years old.

This is a picture of the machine shed and barn on the back side of my grandparents house. That's where all the action takes place, and according to my mom, where I learned pretty much every swear word I now know. In retrospect, she's decided that letting me go the the shed with dad and grandpa while they worked on machinery probably wasn't the best parenting decision she ever made. It caused her some pretty embarassing situations, but we'll save those for another day! ;-)
Thanks for stopping by today. While I'm away from home and my craft room, my card posting may be sporadic, but I'm trying to figure out how to make room for more of my things at my grandparents home. I'll be posting a little of this and a little of that, and sharing with you some of the people and places that are very near and dear to my heart. May the good Lord bless and keep you today and always!

Doggone Blog Walk

Hello, good morning, and welcome to Dog Gone Stamps first ever blog walk! I hope you have had fun and enjoyed the wonderful creations so far, and I also hope that you will enjoy my contribution. This card was made with the Birthday Betsy stamp from Dog Gone Stamps. Isn't she just the cutest little gal that ever you've seen? Her sweet face is simply irresistible!! I really enjoyed creating this card, because it's the first one I've made in well over a week, and I tell ya, that it felt soooooo good to get back in the craft room and get creative. I topped Miss Betsy's party hat with a gold cord pom pom, and that cute little FETCH bone charm was a gift from the very sweet and generous Lauri Ingram, who organized this exciting blog walk. I received my first Dog Gone Stamps from one of Lauri's blog candy give aways, and I've been in love with their stamps ever since. Please be sure to check out the post below, and some of my older posts for other cards made with Dog Gone Stamps. While you're here, please feel free to start following my blog. I'd love to have you join me in my creative journey, sharing ideas and inspiration along the way.

Dog Gone it...It's Oliver

Hello, good morning, and HAPPY DAY to you. It's gonna be a busy day, so I'd better get on with this post. My dad is taking grandpa to the hospital today, so DH and I are going to put up new mailboxes for both dad and grandpa. Dad had a little mishap a few weeks ago, and backed over the mailboxes. One barely survived, and the other wasn't so lucky, so both need to be replaced. Then we'll check the cows to see if there are any new babies. It probably doesn't sound like much fun to many, but it sounds like a glorious day to me!!

On to the card! This is one of my new stamps from Dog Gone Stamps. When I saw it, I knew I had to get this one. I know it's supposed to be a little Westie dog, but the image looks just like my yorkie-poo, Oliver. Many of you have seen pictures of my whopping 3 lb. killer dog, and this IS Oliver from the top of those spikey ears right down to those cute little turned out feet!! Oliver often wears little shirts and t-shirts, because he's so little that he's cold all the time. I'm sending this card to my friend, Doreen. Doreen is the one who found Oliver, and asked if we would think about giving him a home. She's also the Lola culprit too!! LOL!! Doreen loves dogs as much as I do, and we both have done our part in adopting fur babies who need loving homes. So, Doreen...if you're reading this...this one's for you! I love your giving and caring heart, and I can never thank you enough for being instrumental in giving us the chance for the unconditional love that only our Oliver and Lola can give! Thank you, thank you, my friend!!

An Easter Princess

Hello and happy Monday morning! I hope you had a teriffic weekend. Ours was a good one, spent with family and church activities. That always makes for a good weekend.
The card I'm sharing with you today is stamped with the wonderful Princess Anya stamp from The Greeting Farm. I received this stamp from my dear, sweet friend Kadie, who was giving away your choice of stamp from TGF as blog candy on her blog, and I won!! WOOHOO!! Thanks so much Kadie! I chose this adorable princess to use making cards, etc...for my nieces. I have one in particular that is VERY much in to princesses, and this card is going out to her for Easter. This little blonde Anya looks very much like my sweet niece Madisyn. The inside of the card is stamped simply with HAPPY EASTER! Don't you just love this bright and beautiful K&Co. paper? This was also a blog candy win from the very sweet and talented Lauri. I'm hoarding this gorgeous paper and using it only for very special projects. I had no idea how much fun these Anya's are to color, and this is my very first one, so I'm thinking I'll definitely need to be adding to my collection. I love the large size of the stamps, and they are just soooo incredibly adorable!! I actually brought my sewing machine out of hiding for some stitching on this card. I still need to perfect my techinque for that, but I'm sure Miss Madisyn will be fine with "less than perfect" stitching on her card. She loves to get mail, so I'm very excited to get this on its way to her!

Wishing

Hello, and good Sunday morning to you! It's been a week since I've had any time for creating or posting, and boy, have I missed it!!!!! I got a huge Stampin' Up! order this week, and my new Dog Gone stamps in the mail yesterday, and I haven't had time to play as of yet. Maybe today, after church and family activities? I sure hope so! I did take time yesterday to finish up a card for my brother-in-law. I feed so bad, because his birthday was three weeks ago, and I'm just now getting him his card and gift!!! :-( That's sooooo unlike me!! I ordered this Riley stamp especially for his birthday because he LOVES to fish. I watercolored Riley with my SU inks and a blender pen. I paper pieced the lily pads, and gave the waterlilies a little shading on the inside. I used a versamarker to add a little shading to the lily pads and water, but I didn't like that the blue card stock took the water based ink a lot darker than the green did. Oh well...live and learn! After adding some twine, eyelets, and a handmade fish hook, I decided to call it good. I think Jim will like it. He's such a sweet guy, and always very appreciative of hand made cards and gifts.
Supplies
Paper: Pacific Point, Kiwi Kiss, Georgia Pacific White, Baja Breeze
Ink: Versamarker, Black Stazon, Pacific Point, Various SU Inks for watercoloring

Thank you for stopping by today. I hope you have a beautiful spring day wherever you are! May God bless and keep you today and always! Have a blessed day!
